چکیده
‘California Blackeye 77’ (CB77) (Reg. no. CV-344, PI 698656) is a blackeye-type cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp] cultivar developed by the University of California, Riverside. CB77 distinguished from industry standard cultivars, 46’ (CB46) and 5’ (CB5), its ability to resist infestation caused aphid (Aphis craccivora Koch), destructive sap-sucking insect pest prevalent in Central Valley California warm-to-hot regions worldwide. was introgression two known quantitative trait loci for resistance African breeding line IT97K-556-6 into CB46 through marker-assisted backcrossing. Genotyping with 51,128 single nucleotide polymorphism markers reveals that near-isogenic carries haplotypes (?4 Mb total) IT97K-556-6. On-station on-farm trials infestations confirmed inherent (aphids covered 0–10% plant surface area without causing any crown damage, whereas check had aphids covering 60–70% severe damage). Under protected conditions, showed grain yield, seed quality, other agronomic characteristics equivalent better yield than CB5. could therefore be substituted CB5 production where are present. The pair also useful materials gene discovery.

Rhizobacteria-mediated resistance against the blackeye cowpea mosaic strain of bean common mosaic virus in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata).
BACKGROUND The present study investigated the effect of seven Bacillus-species plant-growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) seed treatments on the induction of disease resistance in cowpea against mosaic disease caused by the blackeye cowpea mosaic strain of bean common mosaic virus (BCMV). RESULTS Initially, although all PGPR strains recorded significant enhancement of seed germination and se...
متن کاملEffect of Water Stress on the Yield of Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) Genotypes in the Delmarva Region of the United States
Drought is an important yield-reducing factor for corn and soya bean which are the two major crops in the Delaware, Maryland and Virginia (Delmarva) region of the United States. Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) is primarily grown in drier regions of the world where it is one of the most drought-resistant food legumes. Field experiments were conducted in which 10 genetically diverse cowpea ge...

متن کاملSequence data to settle the taxonomic position of bean common mosaic virus and blackeye cowpea mosaic virus isolates.
The nucleotide sequences of the coat protein genes and 3' non-translated regions (3'-NTRs) of three isolates of bean common mosaic virus (NL1, NL3 and NY15) and one isolate of blackeye cowpea mosaic virus (W) were determined. Comparison of these sequences revealed that the coat proteins of NL1, NY15 and W were identical in size (287 amino acids) and exhibited an overall sequence similarity (94 ...
